Stockade

A stockade is a fence or barrier constructed to defend against unwanted intrusion or used to enclose. Stockades are well known for their military applications, and usually took the form of pointed stakes or a palisade surrounding an encampment or buildings. A well-known stockade in Australia was the Eureka Stockade, which was constructed by rebelling gold miners in defiance of the imposition of licensing requirements.

Stockades are used not only to keep unwanted visitors out, but to keep people or animals inside. For example, the Collingwood Stockade and several others were constructed in Victoria to serve as low-security prisons. Stockades can also have agricultural applications, and have often been used to contain livestock.

This web site is under construction, but if you would like to build a stockade, get in touch with a fencing contractor. As pointed stakes are a key part of what makes a fence a stockade (also known as a palisade), certain cuts may be required as depicted in the video below. If a steel or metal stockade is desired, these can be ordered from a fencing company.
